Blackheads and Enlarged Pores

What Are Blackheads and Enlarged Pores
Blackheads:
Blackheads are small, dark lesions that appear on the surface of the skin, typically in areas like the nose, chin, and forehead. They form when hair follicles become clogged with oil (sebum), dead skin cells, and other debris. The clog is exposed to air, which causes it to oxidise and turn black, hence the name "blackheads."
Enlarged Pores:
Enlarged pores are visibly dilated openings on the skin's surface. They are commonly found in areas with higher oil gland activity, such as the nose, cheeks, and forehead. Enlarged pores can be more noticeable and can contribute to an uneven skin texture.

What Causes Blackheads & Enlarged Pores
Blackheads:
- Excess Oil Production: Overactive sebaceous glands can produce too much oil, which mixes with dead skin cells and clogs pores.
- Dead Skin Cells: When dead skin cells do not shed properly, they can accumulate and block pores.
- Hormonal Changes: Hormonal fluctuations, particularly during puberty, menstruation, or pregnancy, can increase oil production and lead to blackheads.
- Cosmetic Products: Using pore-clogging makeup or skincare products
- Environmental Factors: Pollution and dirt can settle on the skin and contribute to clogged pores.
Enlarged Pores:
- Genetics: A family history of enlarged pores can increase the likelihood of this skin concern.
- Excess Oil Production: Similar to blackheads, excess oil can stretch the pore openings, making them appear larger.
- Age: As skin loses elasticity with age, pores can become more dilated.
- Sun Damage: UV exposure can damage the skin and reduce its elasticity, leading to enlarged pores.
